500 Volunteers Needed to Count Hillsborough's Homeless on February 26th

The Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County is leading our community in the national effort to count and understand our homeless neighbors.

We need an army of 500 volunteers of volunteers to pitch in and help on Thursday February 26th between 4am - 11pm. Register here.

Be part of a team that will walk, meet, and talk with homeless people to identify:

• the number of homeless people in Hillsborough
• who they are, where, and why they became homeless
• how many are newly homeless and how long have they been homeless

This is a one time commitment to help make a major impact in identifying the resources we need to end homlessness. All volunteers will be trained prior to the count (1.5 hrs) and then be placed on a team in a location convenient to you for a 4 hour shift.

Other ways you can help.

Donate $5 and buy a pair of socks and a poncho for 2 homeless individuals.

Collect new socks and rain ponchos -- we need at least 10,000 pairs of new socks and rain ponchos to give to the homeless individuals we meet on February 26th.

I will voluteer but I can't do 4 hour shift.. maybe 2.5 at the best.

If you can't volunteer for the day of the count there are plenty of other opportunities. You could always volunteer to do 2.5 hours of data entry! We're going to need lots of help with that as well. You can contact Jack Garrett at [e-mail] for more info.
