Profile Information

If you live in Tampa Bay, Why are you here?
"I grew up here - moved away and came back"
How long have you lived here?
Moved here in 1967.
What neighborhood do you live in, why did you choose it and what do you like about it?
The beautiful City of Temple Terrace. It chose me as my dad moved the family there in the 60s so he could help start up the USF College of Engineering. The place grows on you, like much of Florida. I like its beauty, cadence, landscape, and community.
If you were to move to a different neighborhood, what would it be and why?
I would move out of the state if I left Temple Terrace, perhaps out of the country. Most of Tampa is only different in very small degrees (sorry South Tampa).
What is your favorite thing about Tampa?
Temple Terrace
What kinds of things are you involved in?
Citizen activism
Historic preservation
Environmental and historic landscape preservation
Modern and traditional architecture
Green building
Progressive planning
Landscape design with Florida native plants
Taking the "duh" out of Florida
If you live in Tampa, Why do you stay?
It's a challenge to make the place livable.
Where else have you lived?
Austin, Texas - 10 years
Vicenza, Italy - 2 years
What kinds of things are you interested in seeing on Brand Tampa?
I hope Brand Tampa will be "a place" to discuss the rejuvenation of the Tampa area and how activism in planning, architecture, design and the arts play an integral part in that Renaissance.

Obviously, the implications of a rising ocean level on the Tampa Bay area (and Florida) is staggering.

South Tampa should be particularly concerned.

Hey Grant - sorry for the delayed reaction. the easiest way to contact me is thecampustv@gmail.com; we've got a lot of exciting renovation work planned @ the Roosevelt for this upcoming week. Let's reconnect after all!

I just read your comment about the landscape, the palms in that picture are very water friendly, i have many in my own yard, never water them. Junipers require little or no water, and the viburnum hegdes are water friendly, those ferns require little water as well............
the st. augustine grass you are correct about, luckily this is a reclaimed water neighborhood. the neighborhood is also deed restricted so no other grass in an option......... which opens up a whole different topic.
i appreciate your comments and advise people to install low maintenance plants in landscapes, it works 2 ways, i dont get called back to replace plants, it saves water.. which is most important... and it looks good for a long time. i looked at your profile and think you would be valuable asset on my free lawn forum. it needs someone with a view like yours, feel free to post your opinion in the plants section. click here and it will take you there

I interviewed someone recently in Temple Terrace and was stunned by how beautiful it is. Tree envy.

What is that wonderfully weird structure in your profile photo-- and who shot it?

I don't know much about Temple Terrace but you've piqued my interest. I confess I have limited knowledge of TT and tend to think of it as 56th St, Busch Gardens and the entrance to I75. It would be cool if you'd share/blog more on your neighborhood and what's happening there and include pics.

Great comments on the Tampa Identity blog. We'll have to ask Gary Mormino. I'm going to blog more about the conversation tomorrow and update what people were saying.
