Profile Information

If you live in Tampa Bay, Why are you here?
Work brought us to Tampa; specifically the I-4 improvement project in the Ybor City National Historic Landmark District. As historic preservation design-build consultants we were responsible for the relocation and rehabilitation of 33 historic homes impacted by the highway expansion for FWHA/ FDOT. We are now involved in Phase II of that project which consists of relocating 29 more buildings in Ybor City and Tampa Heights that are then sold for land value to persons willing to rehab the homes.

While working on this project we realized the need for certain products for Florida historic homeowners, including attractive, historically appropriate outbuildings, traditional screen doors and wood window screens. We now offer these items and more, specifically tailored to the Florida climate and historic architecture at HistoricShed.com.
How long have you lived here?
8 years
What neighborhood do you live in, why did you choose it and what do you like about it?
We are in the upper reaches of the Tampa Bay area in Hernando Beach. It's affordable waterfront with ugly homes but beautiful Gulf water. Dolphins swim in the backyard and bald eagles fly overhead. It makes up for the vinyl siding found around us.
If you were to move to a different neighborhood, what would it be and why?
I would try one of St. Petersburg's historic neighborhoods if I were to move.
What is your favorite thing about Tampa?
Friendly people, great trees
What kinds of things are you involved in?
Historic Preservation in general, Tampa Preservation, Inc., Hernando Preservation Society, raising two children
Tell us about what you do.
Historic Preservation consultant and manufacturer of specialized products for owners of historic Florida homes (www.HistoricShed.com)
Where else have you lived?
We lived in south Tampa for 4 years prior to moving up to Hernando county. Before that, we were located in West Palm Beach which already has changed so much that I get lost when I go back. I grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY but have spent my adult life in Florida.

Camouflage for Replacement Windows

A recent forum post on an old house restoration and renovation website asked what they could do to hide the bright white vinyl replacement windows that the previous owners had installed. They didn't have the money to replace the windows, and the windows were still working fine, but were glaringly inappropriate for their historic home. For situations like this, an affordable solution is to install traditional wood windoContinue

Hi Jo-Anne,

Thanks for visiting my profile. I would love to attend your next workshop. I have been involved in interiors for 14 years however, I have never had the opportunity to work on a historic project. How rewarding your work must be!
