Profile Information

If you live in Tampa Bay, Why are you here?
a:4:{i:0;s:29:"I grew up here and never left";i:1;s:7:"college";i:2;s:3:"job";i:3;s:9:"my family";}
How long have you lived here?
going on 24 years
What neighborhood do you live in, why did you choose it and what do you like about it?
I live and work in Seminole Heights, with Becky at Living Harmony Healing Center. The universe conspired for me to share her space with her. I love the central location (actually we live on Central Ave.), being within biking distance to the River, downtown and Ybor.
If you were to move to a different neighborhood, what would it be and why?
My second choice would be to live near USF since I am in a graduate program there, or north Tampa, near my parents.
What is your favorite thing about Tampa?
I have been surprised how, for as long as I have been here, I am always discovering new things! Just two weeks ago I went to the Thai Buddhist Temple on Palm River Road for the first time, and religious studies is one of my passions. Also, the diversity is continually refreshing.
What kinds of things are you involved in?
I am one of the founders of a group called Door Stop Productions. Our idea is to create a network of community artists interested in exploring the power of live performance. Right now our ongoing event is an open mic at Cafe Hey on Thursdays from 7-9pm. The mic is open to a range of performances and the audience is always highly attentive. check us out at www.myspace.com/doorstoptampa or email at doorstoptampa@gmail.com

I am also a licensed massage therapist specializing in an advanced form of deep tissue therapy called Structural Energetic Therapy. SET aims at getting the body in structural balance and is very affective for pain management, rehabilitation, and prevention. Get in touch for more info at 813-431-6148 or nyssalmt@gmail.com
If you live in Tampa, Why do you stay?
I never thought my friend who told me, when I was a freshman, that USF stands for "U Stay Forever," was right. School has kept me here, but also my family. Now that I have also built a client base and have a beautiful office to practice in (Living Harmony Healing Center), I really don't have any reason to leave.

Plus, I am serious about putting energy into building an artist community, which also encourages me to stay.
Where else have you lived?
Tampa is the one and only.
What kinds of things are you interested in seeing on Brand Tampa?

Turning a Feeling into Action

For some of us living in this breaking economy, Valentine's Day may not have as much luster this year. Or maybe some of us are increasingly disenchanted by the commercialization of a feeling shared between two people. Don't get me wrong, I can really get into going out to dinner, or even better yet being taken out to dinner, but I am searching more productive ways to express my love...so I am taking action!

Whether you are entralled by our new president or not, it is hard to argue with his call… Continue

OPEN AUDITIONS:
Ellen Mueller is seeking physical and improvisational performers of all types for two free collaborative workshops exploring the concepts of success and evaluation.

About the Workshops and Ellen Mueller:
These two free workshops will be led by Ellen Mueller at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center, February 28 & March 1, Noon – 4:00pm, and April 4 & 5, Noon - 4:00pm. The approach for these workshops is based on techniques gleaned from yoga, the Brave New Institute – an improvisation training center in Minneapolis, MN, the Theatre of the Emerging American Moment – a theatre company dedicated to dissecting and celebrating the experience of living in America today, and Viewpoints – a technique for building ensembles and creating movement. Specifically, we will explore our collective response to the concepts of success and evaluation. Our goal is to gather and develop images, ideas, questions, situations, and characters through the practice of movement and improvisational exercises. Participants can expect to learn about the Eight Secrets of BNW Creativity, as well as an approach to collaborative creation. The material collected will be used as research for new performance works, and may lead to future collaborations with workshop participants.

Ellen Mueller was raised in Fargo, ND and currently lives and works in Tampa, FL. She received a BA in Theatre and Art, and a BS in Design Technology from Bemidji State University. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art with emphasis on performance at University of South Florida. For more information about recent projects, please visit EllenMueller.com

If you have any special talents, musical skills, etc, please be prepared to share them. You will be asked to indicate which of the two workshop dates you are available for, or if you are available for both.
