Bovarnick, Comellas, Neri UT Alumni Show
Three University of Tampa alumni will show their provocative work at an art show in the
Scarfone/Hartley Gallery on The
University of Tampa campus starting tonight Friday November 6 through December 10, 2009
Rob Bovarnick '85, a well-known local photographer;
Chalet Commellas '01, apainter and mixed-media artist; and,
Perri Neri a New York painter; will display recent work.
There will be an
opening reception and gallery talk with the artists on Friday, November 6, from 7-9 p.m., with an
experimental dance by Susan Taylor Lennon.
Before digital alteration became common,
Rob Bovarnick created many complexcomposite images on film, images that appeared to have been done digitally. That skill blended seamlessly with the possibilities of the currenttechnology says his former professor Lew Harris.
As a student,
Chalet Comellas embraced the challenge of using symbolic imagery in her artwork. She began using motifs that are still evident in herwork today, exploring the use of "feminine" pattern and design elementscoupled with isolated symbols or objects. The larger image tells a storywhile a variation of touch, transparency or layers of images create adeeper, secondary story.
The recent work of
Perri Neri is rich in surface, texture, color, motion, expression and symbolism. Flat dark voids are juxtaposed against round warm solids, and vigorous forms harmonize with figures that inhabit several ofthe paintings.
The Gallery is located on North Boulevard on the UT campus. The Gallery is open 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday. Admissionis free.
